Welcome to The Universal Bar & Kitchen

THE UNIVERSAL has established itself Over the last decade with its relaxed, chilled out atmosphere, warm welcome, good food and, of course, our 'average service' from our 'apparently friendly staff!'

The ground floor bar is open 7 days a week from 11am (12:30pm Sundays) through to the wee small hours. Serving a wide variety of lagers, an impressive range of bottled beers and ciders plus premium spirits (check out our extensive rum and gin ranges!) to classic cocktails and quality wines!

Food is served DAILY from 12 noon til 9pm. Our menu covers a broad range of dishes which should 'Universally' appeal to most (did you see what we did there??). All of OUR dishes are made here, responsibly sourced and freshly made to order-no pinging in the microwave for us & it definitely won't be served 5 mins after ordering! With that in mind-please be aware that our food will take a tad longer (we aim for no longer than 20 mins) so please be patient – the FOOD will hopefully, be worth it! If, however, you are in a hurry – order our express lunch or pre-order over the phone and we will get it to you asap. The weans are also welcome any day 'til about 8pm and we have a wee section in the menu for them. Highchairs/baby changing facilities and staff that can pull funny faces are available free of charge.

And the upstairs? What do we DO HERE? It can be anything you want it to be! A versatile SPACE, Gig venue, restaurant, special occasion parties and even the odd funeral! But we do think of it as just another area of the pub (when none of that is going on) so feel free to drink/eat/socialise there too. We generally have it open during the week whilst the food is being served 'til 9pm (ideal space for larger parties or if you prefer to dine somewhere a little quieter from the hustle & bustle of the main bar). Most Friday & Saturday evenings are booked for private functions but we still serve food throughout the day there. If its closed for a private function-we'll have a polite sign letting you know.

If you are interested in hiring upstairs-speak to a duty manger or contact us through our website. We have a busy diary for upstairs so best booking well in advance. We charge for hiring on Friday & Saturday nights but during the week (even Thurs & Sundays) are completely free and we welcome any booking! Corporate/team bonding events, acoustic gigs, stand up, whatever!
